Well, my wife partially lost the use of her left arm in a car accident thanks to someone who couldn't ignore their phone while they were driving. Accident (rear ended her) caused serious nerve damage in her arm.
Can't focus on driving as your primary activity? DON'T FUCKING DRIVE UNTIL YOU CAN. You have no idea what responsibility you are taking into your hands when you are driving. and if you do, and you still continue with this approach, you're being ignorant, disrespectful to everyone else around you, and a potential hazard to society.
It's not a game. You don't own the road. You aren't as good as you think you are.

Texting and driving says one thing and one thing only about who you are:
F**K you, I'm more important.
As I get older (I'm only 31) I learn more and more everyday that the most important thing I can do to be a better husband, father, employee...human, is to think less about whats good for me. I don't mean, taking tare of myself, of course that's important, I mean doing things that will impact others positevly or negatively, now or in the future. Claiming its no biggie because you haven't hurt anyone yet is like saying randomly firing a gun into the air is cool cause you haven't shot anyone yet. Low probably doesn't mean low consequences. You can get all mad at me, or disagree all you want. But there is NO reason to text and drive. None. Whats that you have a perfectly goo...NO! you don't!
If you can defend selfishly putting others at risk [yes, its a proven risk] for your own benefit then we have nothing to discuss. I only hope you gain the wisdom with time to see the danger in what you are doing, personally and to others.

One of my friends rear ended someone while texting once, his Blazers engine ended up where the passenger seat was meant to be (luckily it was just him in his vehicle)

I drive a manual in a busy european city. I don't even think of texting or I will crash into the cable car, bus, ambulance or Audi driving prick.
If it is an important text, stop the car, text back, and drive on. If it is just someone whatsapping you with a funny pic or asking how the day was - they can wait a few minutes until you reach your destination.
What would you say if your surgeon would be texting while operating with a deadly tool? See your car as the exact same deadly tool and watch where it goes.

I can't even talk on a cell phone and drive competently. Like everybody else I thought I could - how could it be any harder than driving while you're holding a conversation with a passenger? - but within a week of getting my first company cell phone I almost sideswiped somebody's shiny new Audi in downtown Tampa, and about a week after that I ran a red light in downtown Tampa, zoom right through the line of cross traffic going through their green light.
I think talking on the cell phone may use the same part of my brain as driving a car. I have the same problem that listening to music uses the same part of my brain that I write computer programs with, so whenever there is music playing I can't get any programming done at all.
